William Blount was born in Windsor North Carolina on March 26, 1749 and died on March 21, 1800 He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention for North Carolina, only governor of the Southwest Territory, and Republican Senator from Tennessee.He played a major role in establishing the state of Tennessee. While serving as U.S. Senator In 1797 land speculations led him into serious financial difficulties. That same year, he also apparently concocted a plan to incite the Creek and Cherokee Indians to aid the English to conquer part of Spanish held Florida. The Senated voted 25 to 1 to expel Bloun and the House of Representatives impeached him, but the Senate dropped the charges in 1799.The cigar label is from the Schlegel litho archive file and is dated on the reverse Jan 27 1944
