Marinus Willett was born in Jamaica, New York, on Long Island, on July 31, 1740 and died on August 22, 1830. He was a soldier and political leader from New York during the Revolutionary War. When the Revolutionary War broke out Willett became a leader of the Sons of Liberty in NYC. Later he became captain in General Montgomery's force and unsuccessufly was part of plan to conquer Canada. He became a member of General Washington's army in 1878 in New Jersey and later General John Sullivan's in 1779. He was elected to the New York State Assemblyfrom 1780 to 1784, and then as sheriff of New Yorkfrom 1784 to 1792. After De Witt Clinton was removed from office as New York Mayor he finished the term during 1807 & 1808.
