John Batterson Stetson born in Orange New Jersey on May 5, 1830 and died on February 18, 1906 was a hat manufacturer most none for the Western style hat, stetson hat was named for him. He created this hat for the needs of the Western cowboy after traveling out west in 1860 in order to improve his health. His hat factory, which was the largest in the world producing 2 million hats a year was located in Philadelphia PA.
