Joseph Nicolas Nicollet was born in Cluses, Savoy, France on July 24, 1786 and died on September 11, 1843. He was a geographer and mathematician known for mapping what was the upper portion of the Louisiana purchase. He lead three expeditions the later one was joined by John fremont.
