William Blount was born in Windsor North Carolina on March 26, 1749 and died on March 21, 1800 He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention for North Carolina, only governor of the Southwest Territory, and Republican Senator from Tennessee.He played a major role in establishing the state of Tennessee. While serving as U.S. Senator In 1797 land speculations led him into serious financial difficulties. That same year, he also apparently concocted a plan to incite the Creek and Cherokee Indians to aid the English to conquer part of Spanish held Florida.
